Shostakovich’ 2nd piano trio from 1944 is one of the most important and severe chamber works from the 20th century. Composed during World War II and finished with difficulty after the death of his closest friend, Shostakovich’s trio grips the listener with its dark and dramatic yet beautiful themes.
Dmitri Smirnov was featured composer at Rudersdal Sommerkoncerter this summer, and Rudersdal Chamber Players performed his 2nd piano trio, which they repeat on this concert.
The Danish feature on the program is Carl Nielsen’s 2nd sonata for violin and piano.
